He was a powerhouse on the platform. He was a thought leader. When he spoke hundreds and sometimes thousands of people gathered to hear his message. He altered the course of America, and he did it all through his amazing skills as a public speaker. Can you guess who this forgotten hero is? Watch this short video I taped yesterday in one of America’s most famous graveyards.

Steve, your video got me curious and I did some research on James Otis. I didn’t know that he authored one of the most famous phrases of the Revolution, “taxation without representation”. (Those same words are still used today in protesting against tyranny — over 200 years later!) You’re right — he was one of the original American thought leaders! Thanks for a great post!
Hi Steve,
I love your critical thinking question you ask today. Are you thinking about the impact of your words on people?
I do. I think about it all the time when putting my speech content together. I think about it in my dreams at night as well as my daydreams. For me, I can’t think of a more rewarding profession to be in and I certainly can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.
A favorite thing for me is when I get to see the shift in peoples eyes when I have delivered a message that resonates with them and helps them see things perhaps from a different perspective offering them a different way to think about things. I know I have made a difference in their lives because of the power behind my words. Making a difference in other peoples lives is the best feeling in the world. Something I can’t get enough of.
