If you’ve struggled to get your professional speaking career off the ground, or you’re not happy with your current level of success in the business, don’t feel bad. You’re in the majority. This is a VERY tough business. While it’s possible to make it, it can be quite a challenge. Most of the 3,000 plus speakers who call our office every year for career advice are going down the wrong path, following the wrong people or promoting the wrong topic. Before I met great Bill Gove in 1996 and attended his keynote speech workshop, I was making the same mistakes. Luckily, Bill set me straight and my career blossomed. So consider the idea of starting over, like we used to as kids. The “do-over” might be exactly what you need. Watch this short video I taped at Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Mass. and I’ll look forward to your comments.

Very thought provoking Steve. Life is all about having a chance to start over periodically as we may need to re-invent ourselves over the years. I was told many years ago that about every 7 years we need to change what we are doing. Looking back at my life and the lives of those I get to connect closely with that seems fairly accurate. It may not mean a major change or a new career but could simply be a shift in our focus or our job description. I am at that place right now where after far too long as the same old, same old (about 17 years) I am considering a new business venture. I have grown stale in my current role and do not find too much excitement in what I do today. So it is time to move on. Thanks for your continued efforts and your inspirational messages.

Hi Steve,
I’m looking forward to my ‘do-over’. Like Bob Watt said, I think it’s healthy to reinvent yourself from time to time and I’m grateful to finally have the chance to reinvent myself and pursue my dream career as a speaker. Glad to have a fresh start with a new business plan and a new vision. It’s time to move forward.
Great message Steve.
Thank you.
Lisa
I so enjoyed the 7 day course and look forward to learning more. My topic is ahead of the curve; possibly a little to broad; yet, has international business appeal. The idea of being mentored by you is so exciting.
As I told Dawn, we just need to settle into our new home and then I plan to attend one of your trainings this year. Though I live on the west coast, I’d love to attend the Atlanta training in May. You’ve inspired me to “do over.”
Starting now will be my start of something wonderful and exciting, so I am willing to be trained and learn what I need to know to get my career up and going.
Almost everyone I know has gone through some kind of re-invention in the past few years. It’s taught me that you have to constantly stay ahead of change, because things will always change whether you like it or not. Might as well learn to use it to your benefit.
